Lip Blush Aftercare

AWM - Absorb, Wash, Moisturize - You will be provided an after-care kit.

  • Always wash your hands before performing after-care.

  • Notify your artist or your healthcare professional of any abnormal inflammation/swelling or possible infection immediately.

  • Ice pack will be provided and may be utilized to decrease swelling during the first 24 hours.  Apply a thin protective barrier over the ice pack before using.

  • Immediately following your appointment, lymph fluid may drain or accumulate in the area.  Use a clean cotton round to gently pat and absorb this fluid.  Repeat this process as often as needed to avoid an accumulation of lymph fluid and the development of a scab.

  • Days 1 - 7

    • On the night of the procedure, wash the area with water.  Beginning the next morning, wash the area morning and night with water and a gentle cleanser, such as Cetaphil or Neutrogena.  With a very light touch, use your fingertips to gently cleanse the area.  Rub the area in a smooth motion for 10 seconds and rinse with water ensuring that all soap is rinsed away.

    • To dry, gently pat with a clean cotton round or tissue.  Do not use any other cleansing products or exfoliants on the area.

    • Apply a tiny, rice grain amount of the after-care ointment provided a minimum of 3 times a day with a clean cotton swab and spread it across the area to ensure the area remains moist at all times.  Be sure not to over-apply, as this will suffocate your skin and delay healing.  The product should cover the area, but be barely noticeable on the skin. Do not apply the ointment until the area is completely dry.

  • Important Reminders:

    • Use a fresh pillowcase while you sleep.

    • Avoid touching your lips with your fingers.

    • Avoid toothpaste on the lips.

    • Blot with tissue…DO NOT rub the area.

    • Drink through a straw until the peeling is complete.

    • Avoid eating spicy or extremely salty foods. Salt can remove the pigment and cause color loss.

    • Do not wear lipstick/lip gloss during the healing process.

    • Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away.  Picking can cause scarring or loss of color.

    • No facials, botox, chemical treatments, or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.

    • Avoid getting hot or sweaty for one week.

    • Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after the procedure.  Wear a hat when outdoors.

    • Avoid long, hot showers for the first 10 days. Avoid excess rinsing and hot water on the area.

    • Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days.

    • Avoid face-down swimming, lakes, and hot tubs for the first 10 days.

    • DO NOT rub, pick, or scratch the treated area.

  • Long-Term Care:

    • Use a good quality lip balm with sunscreen on your lips daily.  Lack of sunscreen use will result in the color fading quicker.  Make sure sunscreen is at least SPF30.

    • Use of Retin-A/Retinol/Tretinoin, chemical, acid peels, or any rapid skin exfoliation products used on or directly around the lip area will cause the permanent makeup of the lip area to fade.

    • Schedule your annual touch-up appointment.

Lip Blush Healing Process

Day 1

Swelling, tenderness, and the color is very bright/dark.  Don’t panic!!  This is normal and it will subside.

Day 2

Lips are much darker and still feel swollen and dry, but you should not feel pain.  Lips may still be very tender.  Continue applying moisturizing ointment.

Days 3 - 7

The skin is flaking and scabbing. This should improve but may continue until week 2.  The color has faded substantially, which is normal.  The color will lighten by 30-60%. This is the “ghosting phase”.   Continue keeping the lips moist.

Days 14 - 30

Lips are done peeling and the color has darkened from the “ghosting phase”, but is still light. Lips will continue to heal, for up to 4-6 weeks.  Every week, more color will surface.  Lips will remain dry for 1-2 months.

Days 42 - 56  Your lips are healed and it is time for your perfecting appointment.  Any adjustments to the color, shade, and shape will be made as needed.
